What is the Somerset Guild of Craftsmen?
The Somerset Guild is a long established organisation which represents around 100 skilled makers of Somerset and neighbouring counties. Our members have passed a stringent selection to ensure their work is of a high standard in both craftsmanship and design, and generally create individual original pieces, making their work highly collectable. Amongst our members are some known nationally for their work and some who regularly show their work at prestigious venues both in the UK and internationally.

Where are we?
Our gallery, situated in a pleasant courtyard next to Pickwick’s café, Broad Street, in the lovely cathedral city of Wells, is open throughout the year and shows a regularly changing array of work in many media. We also offer the work of some of our members in our new online shop to enable collectors unable to visit our Gallery to buy our members’ beautiful pieces.
What are the Membership Options?
Craft Members
This is open to those whose design and quality of work meet the approval of a Selection Committee that sits several times throughout the year. A non-returnable selection fee of £10 is payable. The right of regular exhibition at the Guild’s galleries is confined to those with Craft Membership.
Associate Membership
This is open to hobbyist makers, those makers aspiring to Craft membership in future and those wishing to support the work of the Guild and its members.
Membership Bursary
Each year the Guild will offer a limited number of Bursaries, giving new, innovative and emerging craftsmen free membership for up to one year. All other conditions of membership apply.
Current membership rates are as follows:
Craft Members: £120 per year, renewable on 1 April annually.
Associate Membership: £25 per year.
Membership Bursaries: By invitation of the selection committee, plus commission on sales will apply.

The Selection Panel for admission to Craft Membership of the Guild meets four times a year.
If you are thinking of applying, please note that your application should be with the Membership Secretary at the SGC Shop in Wells as soon as possible.
