Background
A range of hand built vessels using heavily grogged stoneware clay and fired in an electric kiln to a temperature of 1240c. Pieces are often fired three or more times, overlaying wood ash glazes and oxides to produce the depth and variety of glaze colour. The outside of many of the vessels are impressed with seed heads, fossils, leaves or grasses and the images intensified with oxide before firing.
Gillian works from a pottery studio in Wayford; a tiny hamlet on the Somerset-Dorset border. She sells mainly to galleries across the West Country. The colours and the images on these vessels are a direct response to the countryside surrounding the studio.
