Background
Chris’s background is as an Architect and his working life has been in construction. He has always had a passion for working with wood and his skills are essentially self-taught. More recently, to develop and hone those skills, he completed a course in Furniture Design and Manufacture at Bridgwater College. He has now retired from the construction industry and indulges his passion for working with wood.
From the conception and development of an idea, to turning a piece of wood into a beautiful heirloom. “Form follows function” is his simple guiding principle, but not at the expense of beauty. When making a chair, comfort is the overriding criteria and detail is determined by the ergonomic requirements. Functionality and beauty must both work together for the design to succeed.
The wood he uses is locally sourced, sometimes used green, or dried in his own designed “solar powered convection kiln”. He does not use “exotic” imported wood
