Background

Alicia Merrett is fascinated by colour, and feels texture complements it. For some years her main work has been interpreting maps, real or imaginary, in her textile medium. She believes maps are an ancient and important part of mankind’s need to understand the world. More recently Alicia has transitioned to designing her textiles digitally: starting with her own ‘paintings’ and/or photographs, she modifies and collages them via a variety of computer-based processes. The resulting design, is printed on fabric, layered and stitched. Colour and texture still remain Alicia’s main way of expression.
